Athletics !!

Lately we have been doing athletics training. A you may or may not already know I am quite sporty in a way and love running. We have been doing practices every Tuesday for about 4 weeks. For athletic training we have been doing.....sprints, long distance running, discus, shot-put, high jump and long jump. My favourite sport activities out of all of these are sprints, long distance running and long jump. And basically they are my favourite because I am good at these sport activities! But surprisingly I did come second it discus, haha.
Now this year was the first time I had ever done high jump because for some weird reason when I was living in Australia, at the sports day, they didn't even HAVE high jump!! Anyway it was the first time I had ever jumped over that high jump bar at the first practice. I did miss a few practices and that was because I was quite sick (sore head, lots and LOTS of tissues). But my friends explained it to me what we were doing at the practices.
I was so excited for the actual athletics day to come I couldn't even get to sleep on Monday night! But to be honest I think everyone couldn't get to sleep that night. 0_0

It was the day! he big sport filled day! I got out of bed, got ready and RACED out of the door!
When I got to school I saw everyone is their sporty clothes, shorts, singlets, t-shirts. I was all chatting with my friends about how nervous and excited I was and we were all jumping around like crazy! After Mr Ashby called out the roll, he asked us if we had everything we needed, then we lined up with our partners that we were going to sit next to on the bus. I decided to sit with Ocean, and we talked on the bus and looked out of the window, and sometimes we would play a bit of sweet n sour.

When we arrived at Saxton Oval place thing, we stepped out of the bus and thanked the driver. We saw other seniors from other buses stepping out too.
We walked around the corner from the car park and there were a bunch of of seats and places were we can sit. I was SOOOOO excited!

Everyone took a seat on the grey, concrete chairs, as Mr Mackenzie spoke and a bunch of other teachers spoke with him. They were all talking about what we were doing today and to put on LOTS of sunscreen! So we did and then we got sorted for the 800 meters. I was so nervous. It was 2 laps around the big running track! As Mr Mackenzie yelled out for all 9 year old girls to go race first, I cringed. I was so scared. Georgie was so nice and kept on reassuring me and I made sure she wasn't nervous too.

After the 9 year old girls race and 9 year old boys race, it was then the 10 year old GIRLS race. I tried to stop the butterflies from flapping around in my stomach, but I kept on being a nervous little 10 year old! All of us lined up at the starting point. Mr Ashby held out this gun and shouted, "ON YOUR MARKS! GET SET!" BANG !! We were off! I went quite fast at the start ( not like a sprint or something ) and a few seconds later I was in front with Lili Fenwick behind me. We kept on running like this for the first lap.

On the second lap, I began to get tired and my throat felt like it would split open. I tried to stay in front, but I couldn't and Lili ran around me and I let her pass. Then when we were close to the finish line I tried SO hard to get in front, but all my energy had just run out and Lili crossed the finish line with me tagged behind. I felt good for coming second, but I knew I could of tried sprinting harder at the end. After the race I kept on wheezing and finding it hard to breathe. Lili came over and congratulated me and I did too. I like it when that happens. Your friend comes a place and so do you and you all just give each other compliments and congratulate each other.

After that there were the 10 year old boy's 800 meter race, and then the 11 year old girls and so on.
After those races it was time for the 10 year old girls to do high jump. And like I said earlier
at the athletics practices it was the first time ever I had done high jump. I was super scared about high jump and I knew I probably wouldn't get a place.
Mrs Pilcher told us all of the instructions and to be careful and all that. We got into our right places like right and left. Of course I was in right like most of the people there.

After a few girls had their jump, it was finally my go! I gave a really fast run up and made it, yay! Even though it wasn't very high.
After a lot of girls had their jump it was time for my second jump. The bar was a bit higher than before, but I was sure I could make it. I had my run up and then jumped over the bar. YAY!! I made it again, but I knew once the bar had gone up a bit higher, I probably wouldn't make it.

2 successful jumps later, I gave it my best run up ( a really fast run up ) and jumped as high as I could, but my clumsy leg had hit the bar. I landed back first on the big, puffy mat.
Mrs Pilcher told me that I ran too fast for my run up. And she said I could have a second go after everyone else had gone.
When my second go came, I tried to go a bit slower. I ran and ran then jumped with my hands in the air and knocked over the bar. ARGHH!! Oh man! Anyway I had to sit with the other people who hadn't made it.

With the next event I was very happy because it was SPRINTING!!! YAY!! And as you can tell I absolutely love sprinting, I am really fast too ( not bragging or anything ).
Us 10 year old girls walked over to the sprinting tracks. I was jumping around with excitement! Mr Ashby told us to all sit down and he put us into groups for sprinting. I was in the fourth part of the line. All of the people in the groups went first and then finally when it became my turn I got in my starting position. Mr Ashby shouted out "ON YOUR MARKS! GET SET!" And then BANG!! I sprinted as fast as I could going hard on the ball of my feet. My arms pushing me forward! An amazing feeling flashed through my body. I ran as fast as I could, I was in the front then the finish lines were in my view and I swiftly passed them. I came first I was really proud. And I congratulate my friends in the race and they congratulate me back. The parent helpers told me I was in the sprinting finales!!

The next event was discus! I really wasn't too keen on it, but oh well. I lined up with all my friends. We were all in a big line and while we were waiting we were just chatting about the day, and how much fun athletics had been so far. We started singing and laughing, telling goofy stories and all that. Then finally after Ocean's turn at discus it was mine. I walked over to the discus thing were you stand and Mr Mackenzie handed me a discus. He told me how to hold it and then he said to shuffle up and then swing it and throw the discus. So I shuffled forward and gave it my best shot as I threw the discus roughly through the air. And oh my GOODNESS!! My discus was way in front of everyone's! I was very happy and REALLY shocked and surprised haha!! Some people said well done to me and everything and I smiled and said thanks.
Then when it was Lucianie's go, her discus went speeding through the air and was like 2 meters away from like MINE!! Well so much for being in front for discus. I was amazed though and happy that my friend had won discus, I gave her a hug and said WELL, WELL, WELL done!! We both laughed and went onto the next activity.

The next activity was LONG JUMP!! Yay I love long jump, and I relatively good at it. Mr Marsten told all the 10 year old girls to line up. So we did, I was third in line and kept on asking people to go in front of me, but they all whimpered and said no. It was obvious everyone was really nervous. First was Lucianie then Vaaloa then ME!!! Ahhhh! So I breathed in and out then ran as fast as I could. I jumped and flung my hands up in the air, my teeth gritting together. Then I land on the soft, golden sand. Mr Marsten says well done and says that my score was 3 meters 62!! I was very happy with that. I went to go join my friends for a lunch break.

Later on we all got the results for our long jump. And it turned out I had come first!! I was very proud and happy. I congratulated my friends and so did they.

The lucky last event was shot-put! I wasn't at all keen to do shot-put. I really am not that good at it and it definitely one of my least favourite activities in athletics. So Mr O was there at the shot-put place and all of the 10 year old girls lined up in a long line. After everyone pushed their heavy ball in front of them, it was my turn! I was really nervous, I didn't really know I was that good at it or not. So Mr O called me up to have my turn with the incredibly heavy ball. I put the ball next to my ear and shuffled forward. I pushed it firmly out and it landed at quite a good distance. I wasn't at all that proud, but oh well.

So that was my reflection of athletics and it was absolutely an awesome experience. I also got into interschools athletics and am really happy about it. I hope you enjoyed this super, super, SUPER long post about my athletics journey!

Tiny Houses!!

So our maths project at the moment is really cool. It is called, yep you guessed it, TINY HOUSES! I bet you are thinking, what??? Well the tiny houses project is when we design a tiny house and measure it and all that and find figure out the volume of the tiny house you have done or are doing. My tiny house design is just a basic little, quirky, country house. And oh btw......I HAVE PET LLAMAS!! The app we use to make our houses is on floorplanner which is really fun and useful for these sorts of tasks. I am mostly done I just have a few bits to fill in. The house is quite small and I would never live in it to be completely honest. I still haven't really done the measuring because I haven't quite yet finished the house. But straight after I finish it ( I will probably finish it in the next session of the project) I will measure it and put a screenshot of it. I will take a screenshot for you now of the house so far.

And if you want to go to the site floorplanner and create your own house that can be as big and as funky as you want, then go to www.floorplanner.com
And there you have it. By the way I will edit this post to put in the measurement when I am done, so keep a good look out!!

Actually screen capture is not working and I have tried and tried so sorry I can't get the pictures, but I will try as soon as possible.

Thank you all for reading this post ( if you even did read it) and have a fantastic day and week and weekend. :))))))))

Book Club :))

Book club term 4 HSS 2015 is GREAT!! But once again we use a progression sheet, and this time it is not an Art Progressions sheet, Literacy Progressions sheet, but a Reading Progressions sheet! YAY!! My goals are to when I am reading, I need to skim and through and figure a situation better in a story. Say I am like reading and sometimes I actually read it over and over again for like NO reason!! And I am a very slloooww reader. It's weird because my mum is like the fastest reader in the world. She'll be reading a massive big, chunky book and in about a day she'll come to me and say 'finished!' Anyway enough about my mum being a fast reader. Everyone has a few tasks for them self to choose from. I am doing (because I am reading the book series Warriors) I am doing a description of the main character of the book I am reading. He is an orange, brave, wild cat named Fireheart. I really, really, REALLy recommend these books to everyone out there that likes cats, is into action and fighting and stuff, and likes reading- the books are quite big.

The other task I am doing is called fanmail. It is when you write a letter to a character in your book that you love and is a big fan. Even if their not a real person or cat or whatever, you can write a letter to them. I wrote a letter to Fireheart. And I say how much of a brave and awesome cat he is. I think that all of the book week tasks are AWESOME!! Thank you all of the teachers that made these tasks. And also I am currently doing the task to ask questions to the author that you are curious about. And the author that made a warroirs are ACTUALLy more than 1 person !! And they made just a name for their group to write books. So one of questions are definately going to be, "Why did you choose to have a group of people write books?" And I am still thinking on the other questions, you know, I don't wanna seem dumb and ask stupid questions!

Thanks for reading my Book Club post (if you even did that is) and here are some drawings I drew of the characters of my book. :p

Dance Progressions

WOOHOO !! Dance progressions is in DA house! For dance progressions I am making a hip hop dance and to learn how to dance hip hop. I am kind of struggling because I am a bit behind. I missed 2 sessions of it because I was in Aukland for a few days. I think I have had about 5 or 6 sessions of dance progressions because of S.L.L and it's all gone confusing. But I can fix that by working hard. I have a song FINALLY yay! It is a song called Higher by Ta-ku but it's the Flume remix. I think it is quite a cool song so yeah.
I am going to make a video with Imovie and that's how I will present it. I'll feel embarrassed if I actually dance in front of the class.
Here is the song if you want to hear it and I will put the dancing video on the blog when it is finished.
I am learning how to dance hip hop and research hip hop. I am going to make a routine as well and video it, yeah, yeah. OH! I just remembered, my goal is to......
Prepare and present dance, with an awareness of the performance context.
Thank you for reading my blog post and have a fantastic day :))))))

Inspirational People Project

So this term one of our school projects is an Inspirational People Project. And in this project we research about an inspirational person that has faced challenges in their life, and has faced challenges to get up to where they are now. And if your thinking, "Well my mum is inspirational so yeah, I will do her for my project," that is totally not it! What I mean is we have to research a famous person. So what I am doing is researching John Lennon for my project. I think that he is truly an inspirational person, since he did face a lot of challenges and heartbreak in his life. Like when he was very young his dad died and his mother couldn't look after him, so John had to go live with his aunt.
Then later on in his life when John was a teenager, he actually realised that his mum was living in the same town as him. So he met up with her and got to know her a little bit, but then she got ran over by a drunk driver. John Lennon was of course very sad about that, but he kept on believing and being positive.

There are also a lot of other fantastic projects that people are doing in room 5. Like Carla, she is doing someone I have never heard of before and apparently was an Olympic runner and won gold medals, his name, Louis Zamperini. And Amy, she is doing Stephen Hawking. I researched him once in the 'Does History Matter' project, and Amy has found out a lot of things about Stephen Hawking, such as how he got a very terrible disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. And the doctors told Stephen that he had only 2 years to live. Stephen did not believe that and he kept on doing cosmology (finding out about stars and how the universe was created). And it turned out Stephen Hawking lived for way more years that 2, and he still is alive TODAY!

I really enjoy doing this project. I find it quite interesting and fun to research incredible, inspirational people. Here is just my presentation so far of John Lennon. It is not quite finished, but it will be soon.

Passions !!

So I came to Hampden Street school this year so I have never done passions before. I am really excited for passions because I am leading a group with Amy. I bet you are thinking (if you are reading my blog from another school) that what ARE YOU talking about?! Well passions is when all the teachers have a skill so they make a group with that skill and kids in the school learn that skill. And also the cool thing is kids can actually teach a skill to other kids TOO! And that is what I am doing, with Amy. Also my mum is coming in to make a film making group because she edits and makes movies. So basically teachers, kids, parents come and teach other kids a skill. And today is the first session of it!

Amy and I have a 6 people group and the skill is for this group is art like drawing and stuff. We figured that we (Amy and I) are quite good at art, so we are going to teach it to a bunch of people! Mr Ashby, he has a group to make haunted house props, because, the school gala is coming up and we need some scary things in the haunted house. It sounded pretty cool and I really wanted t do and ( same with Amy) but in the end we decided to have our art group.

There are a lot of cool, interesting groups for passions, like we have, gymnastics, architecture, baking, cross stitch, and more.
I think I will really enjoy passions this year!

Calendar Art!

CALENDAR ART! So I bet you are wondering what this is exactly. Well, this is when we make art to make for a calendar for ourselves or a present or something like that. You can also create this art for a diary cover and a book!! Basically Mr Ashby told us this simple question for this art, "Do you want to do this art your way, or my way?" I was a bit confused. I said, "my way," and he said ok.

So I looked around the class at all the other people's calendar art. They all had a picture of themselves with like a cool effect. I wanted to do something like that, so I guessed that this was Mr Ashby's way or something. I went up to Mr Ashby and said if I could do the photo like the rest of room 5 did. He said that, that was his way. So he said that I could use his computer to take a photo of myself with a cool effect on it. So I did and this was the effect a chose for myself ^^^^^^^^^^.

I decided to draw on it a bunch if little weird meme faces. And with it I drew a disgusting, realistic eyeball. I haven't finished yet so here is a sneak peek photo. I hope ya like it!

Genius Hour Presentation day Term 3 2015!

Genius hour FAIR was awesome!! There were a lot of teachers, parents and children. And by the looks of things when I was wandering around the senior syndicate, there were a lot of FANTASTIC projects.
At my stand I had a big, round table with my presentation on a computer, my drawing book of my manga drawings, my description of a contemporary dance, and on an Ipad there was my drawing video rolling through for 6 minutes.
A few people came round because of the drawings and stuff, I had a lot of comments like, "That's good drawing Elly Mae." I thanked them and asked some juniors if they knew what manga drawing was, most of them said no. So I explained it to them.
"A manga drawing is like a cartoon type of drawing of people. Like on Pokemon, the characters were made by someone drawing manga then animated it. Pokemon is manga." They kind of understand it, and I explained my genius hour.

I bet you are wondering what my genius hour was for Term 3. I will explain it now.
It was to create a series of tutorial videos to put on youtube, to teach kids around the world to be awesome! What I mean by "awesome" is like teaching kids how to dance, act, sing, play instruments, draw and so on. I only ended up doing 2 videos to put on youtube, the drawing video and a contemporary dancing video. I think my drawing video is quite cool, (probably cooler than my dancing video).

Genius Hour Presentation Day was fun, interesting and full of confident people speaking about their amazing, creative projects for term 3 Genius Hour 2015.

My Lit prog #3 Wild Wild West

Goal: Use some complex sentences to create page, flow and interest. Use a range of written features; e.g metaphors, similes, onomatopoeia.
Wild West mystery

Some say, Lochiel is a town full of death and destruction. A dark, deserted town with the population of 53 people. Our story starts before this town had its doubts, this mystery starts with a……
“BANG!” The ear blistering gun fires from a finger that has pulled the trigger of death.
“Well done Jackson!”
“Thank you Bob, my shooting skills are better each time I pull that trigger!” The two silently looked at the dead cow, blood trickling down it’s spine. As the air gently pulled at the cow, Jackson walked over to his dull, docile horse, smelling the air surrounding him. His hand slid across the horse’s body then smoothly touched the horse’s bony cheek.

“You know, that horse should be let free in the wild,” a small delicate voice whispered along the wind.
“Excuse me?” Jackson looked around not knowing where that voice had come from.
A head peeped out of the shadows of an old, rusty saloon.
“Oh it’s you.” Jackson smirked rolling his eyes.
“Yes Jackson, and I also wanted to tell you this,” there was a long pause, “just don’t tell anyone, but my senses say that there is something going on in this town, something strange. And I fear it is something to do with the horses.”
“Your senses, eh Ivy? Well-”But before he could say anything else, Ivy interrupted him, “Yes my senses. They NEVER lie! Just look out.” Ivy spoke with a solemn tone then vanished back into the shadows.
“Huh, something strange is going on?” Jackson asked himself, doubting Ivy’s words.

Jackson walked into the saloon. And as usual, Barbra was arranging the drinks.
“Fancy seeing you here.” Barbra gave Jackson a clever stare.👀
“Yes Barbra; may I have the Rattlesnake Supreme please?” Jackson asked for his drink, then walked helplessly out of the stinking bar. Jackson slid his feet along the dull, dirt path. His face expressionless from what Ivy had told him.
“Maybe I shouldn’t of thought she was just being silly. Maybe there is something strange going on here,” Jackson murmured to himself.
His eyes gazed into the distance. “I’d better get home,” He said and gently walked across the rusty ground until he reached a tall building, his home.

The next morning, Jackson sprang out of his bed covers and ran outside to feel the sunshine touch his crooked nose. He thought of saying to Ivy that he was sorry to not believe her, but also half of him thought that Ivy was just being that old Ivy that was the little trickster!
Before he could think anymore, he saw someone in the distance walking towards him. And sure enough it was the red headed girl that told him something strange was going on in this town, Ivy.
“What are you doing here, eh?” Jackson looked at Ivy challengingly
“Oh nothing, I was just wondering if I could borrow some apples. My horse, Blue, is very hungry.” Ivy ignored Jackson’s glare.
“Well then, there is a bag of fresh, red apples at the door,” He replied, confused that Ivy had asked him for some apples instead on an apology.
“Oh and Ivy...I’m sorry that I didn’t really believe you yesterday.” Jackson blurted out.
“Yes, thank you Jackson. Anyway so-” But before she could finish, Jackson cut off what Ivy was saying, “Look, I know there is something strange going on, I can feel it and see it too.” Jackson was being truthful. Earlier yesterday at the bar, strange new people were having some drinks.
“Oh so now you believe me?!” Ivy crossed her arms.
“Ivy don’t play this game with me.” Jackson said seriously.
Ivy looked at Jackson with a flare anxiety.
“Look, we have to do something about this.” Ivy said.
“Ok then. And also, I saw some weird strangers in the saloon bar yesterday. So I think I know where to start.” Ivy shot a surprised glance at Jackson as he spoke.
“What do you mean start. We can’t just search the town for some random people that we think are strangers and evil to this town.” Ivy had a point, but Jackson knew THAT something strange...was going on.

Jackson felt himself cringe. He looked around in the deserted, ghost town. Memories passed through his mind. A shadowed figure stood in front of him, holding a gun. No one was there, only the mysterious man and himself. Then suddenly, BANG, BANG!! Jackson fell to the solid ground a-
Jackson rapidly pushed himself out of his bed covers, Breathing loudly. His heart was pounding, that dream was almost REAL!
It was the middle of the night, 12:26. Jackson lifted his tired body out of the crooked bed. He slipped on his dressing gown and walked out of his room.
The door lead him to the kitchen. Jackson pulled open the fridge door and grabbed a bowl of dry, tasteless yogurt. As he was about to dig the spoon into the bowl of yogurt, he felt something slide down his back. He went to go touch it, but it moved away.
“How dare you speak of me.” A voice whispered into his ear.
“WHO”S THERE!!” Jackson yelled, scared and confused.
“Oh you know who’s here, Jackson, you know.” The voice continued.
Jackson heard a gun being pulled out of a pocket. Jackson looked around breathing heavily. Then, without any warning, the lights shimmed then flicked off.
“Look, WHO are you!” Jackson’s fingers were trembling.
“For the last time, YOU know who I am.” The voice replied.
Jackson bounded over to the front door then briskly swung the door open. He sprung outside to feel the moonlight touch his face. Jackson turned around. And there standing in front of him, 2 meters away, was the dark figure he had seen in his dream.
“I told you Jackson…..” the man said.
Jackson slid out his gun. It was in his dressing gown in case of an emergency.
“Jackson, you shouldn’t shoot me, you see, you can’t just search for random people that you think are evil, and strangers to the town. And it would be awful if you even shot them.” The figure repeated Ivy’s words.
“Ho, how, how did you know?” Jackson then realized that, the man had been watching him all along.

Jackson and the man were just standing in front of each other. Jackson just wished that Ivy was here, she would help with this confusing situation. The man in front of him shot 2 warning shots up into the air. The noise was so deafening, that almost the whole town could hear it. Jackson watched all of  the lights turn on in every house nearby.
“Jackson, prepare to die.” The man spoke.
“NO!” Jackson shouted.
Everyone in the town were opening the door of their houses and watching the stand off. Ivy was one of them. She was looking at Jackson with sympathy.
“Oh look at that Jackson, it’s your time to shine!” The man stood out from the shadows, immediately, Jackson recognized the thin, pale man from the bar he had seen with a bunch of strangers.
Jackson didn’t care though. He stared at the man fired a bullet into his direction. “BANG BANG!” But it missed the man as he ducked under, and instead the bullet went straight through Jackson’s house roof.
“Ooh, better think more carefully next time ya shoot, eh?” The man teased.
Jackson just ignored him, and when the man was looking at the audience of people (showing off about his attitude), Jackson pointed his gun straight at the man then,”BaNg, BaNg!!” A pitch, black bullet bombed out of Jackson’s gun, and hit the man straight through the stomach.
The man was wheezing heavily, trying to breath as HARD as he could. But Jackson had killed the man with one shot.
“T-t-his iiis-n’t t-the end…..” The man wheezed. Shocked murmurs rose from the crowd of people.

From then onwards the town made Jackson sheriff. They said that he was the bravest of the brave in Lochiel, the crazy, dark town.

Summary: I think that I achieved my interest goal, but I don’t think I used that many similes, metaphors but I did use a few onomatopoeia. I liked my story because it was quite mysterious and I used a lot of new words to make this story. I used the dictionaries and stuff like that.

Winter Sports!

So there have been students chatting about winter sports all around the school. And here is a post about it. So winter sports is when in winter you choose a sport out of volleyball, hockey, basketball, netball, table tennis, football and rugby. I chose hockey, because I had no idea how to play it and I have always wanted to play hockey. And it turns out that I am actually quite good at hockey (pat on the back for me).

So every Tuesday all of the kids doing hockey and all those other sports line up in a line with all of the other kids that are doing the same sport, if you know what I mean.
Okay all of the different sports go to the, well for example, for the footballers they go to the bottom field, the hockey players at a court and yeah. So then we do hockey training and we play some hockey games.

On the last hockey training session with Mrs Armstrong, she put us into 2 teams for the hockey tournament which was on Thursday. In my team there was Ocean, Harper, Flynn, Lochlen, Johnny, me, and I guess a few more people. So on that day we were all playing hockey games against all of the teams. It was really fun and I couldn't wait for the tournament!

This is the day of the hockey tournament and all of the other sports that Hampden Street children were doing. I was really nervous and excited at the same time. Because I mean this was the first ever hockey game I have played! And I hope our cool team will do great! This tall man (I forgot his name) was calling out the schools and their team for a practice warm up thing for hockey. This guy called Craig was teaching us some hockey techniques like, the different kinds of hockey dribbling, and we did some hockey warm up games with our teams. It was quite interesting to see all these kkids from different schools.

Now here it is, the time to play a real hockey game! I feel delirious just thinking about playing a hockey game. The first team we were against was I think a Nelson Central school team (well they were wearing yellow.....)  I was a bit confused, but the referee explained it to me. THANK YOU REFEREE!! -I am random.
Anyway, we waited for the bell to ring as my heart pounded. And then "DING DING!!" The bell had rung! ZOOM! Our team went straight for the ball and so did the other team. It was thrilling feeling!
The game went REALLY good! We came a draw with the other team. Not bad Hampden Street not bad.

That was our first game so 5 more games to go! The second game, we were playing against really skilled hockey players, and one of them was really aggressive! He whacked Ocean in the foot and purposely fell on Ocean when she was about to get a goal for our team! (We didn't like him).
The team got 2 nil! (OH MAN!) Anyway life isn't all about winning.
The third game was good, but weird. It was weird because we were against the other team from our school, so....WE WERE PLAYING AGAINST HAMPDEN STREET SCHOOL! Our team won, just We got 2 nil! Yay!
The fourth game was really successful! We were playing against, I think St Josephs or something.
We got 4 nil!!! Now that is what I call successful. (Wink).
And the other games I forgot how many goals we got, but man hockey is fun!

So that was the AWESOME adventure of the hockey tournament and the training!

Masked Parade!

In term 4 it is masked parade! Yay! And that means we need to make masks in term 3 (this term)
Cherry, Amy and I are making a big cardboard buffalo, and I bet you are wondering, "Why a buffalo??" Well I will tell you now if you are confused,
1. I love buffaloes
2. The theme for the masked parade is Wild West.
3. There a buffaloes in the wild west.

So yeah the theme is Wild West, but no ordinary wild west, it is a Wheres Wally Wild West theme! So there is going to be like a few Wallys in the crowd of wild west people. For wild west there are a lot of people being cowgirls and cowboys, but Cherry, Amy and I wanted to be a little different. And there a people being cactuses, wagons and even horses. I think it is a really fun, creative process.

So far the buffalo that we are making looks like this, (by the way this is only the face we haven't started making the body yet.
Yeah I know it looks more like a dirty lion, but when it is finished you'll see how it looks like a buffalo.
The next steps for tis buffalo is to glue on the horns that I made and painted.
These are the horns and me and Amy are posing for the camera (sorry the photos are blurry and bad quality)
So that is masked parade!!! And I can't wait to go marching down the street with a buffalo over Cherry, Amy and my head!

Year 5 SKIING!!

2 weeks ago in week 6, the year 6s went skiing and so did the year 5s. The 6 ski day was on Tuesday 2 weeks ago and the year 5 ski day was on Thursday. and I am a year 5 so I went on Thursday. Ok, ok enough blabbering on about the days! So this is the story of Elly Mae and the year 5 ski trip.

Once upon a time, there was a school called Hampden Street school. Ok whatever let's just get on with the ski day! HELLO I am Elly Mae and I will tell all about the year 5 ski day. So of course we had to come to school early and I arrived at 7.00 am. Mr O called out the role and then everyone ran to the cars. My mum was taking transport and in the car was Oreala, Anna, Holly and I. On the way we got some lollipops and mints.

Finally we arrived after 2 hours of doing nothing (Thumbs are up). I was going spastic of course because I absolutely love the snow! First we had to put all of our gear on and skis then we headed down for the skiing!

I went on the intermediate slope first because I have been skiing once before and I got to the intermediate slope. But then after about 30 minutes of going down the ski slope, Mr Ashby invited me and Anna to go down the tea bar slope. I was quite unsure at first, but then I said "Yes I AM GOING TO DO THIS!" And so we went right up to the top of the mountain and then stopped at the top. Mr Ashby said, "Just follow me and when you go down don't go straight down just ski side to side." When I looked down at the massive slope, I thought, "I cannot do this, this is SO big!" But I went down it.
Mr Ashby went first, I went second and Anna went down third. IT WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE!! And I am not kidding it was fantastic! I thanked Mr Ashby for asking me to go on the tea bar. And I thanked Anna for coming with me down the amazing slope of awesomeness.

Next we had to eat some food, I had a pie. Yep a pie. AND you know what flavor? What flavor!? PIE FLAVOUR! Okay now I am sounding like asdf if you know what that is. So I ate my pie and drank my fejoa and apple juice. Then I went down the tea bar slope 3 more times until it was time for
my lesson, "Yay!" I couldn't wait for my lesson.

Now it was the level 4 and 3 lessons (I am a level 3) Our instructor was Lizzy, I think that was her name. Anyway, she all taught us that you know same old thing, the airplane. Then when we stopped in the middle of the intermediate slope, Rhea came bundling down and crashed into me! One of my skis came off and I got a bruise on my hip. I had to put my ski that had come off back on, but it was really hard because we were in the middle of the slope. It was really embarrassing because I was holding everyone up. Lizzy got a bit grumpy and she tried to help and I tried my best to put my ski back on, but it took a long time and Lizzy started to get really angry. Eventually it came on (Phew) We went down the intermediate slope about 2 more times, then Lizzy said after all of the begging that we would go down the tea bar slope that Mr Ashby, Anna and I went down. We all got really excited and headed for the machine that get's you to the top of the mountain.

When we got to the top of the mountain this little girl (not from our school) was really scared and she did NOT want to go down the big slope. But Lizzy said that she had to. And the little girl started to cry, I felt really sorry for that girl. And I thought it was really rude of Lizzy to make her go down the slope and she was not ready yet. :-( Anyway we all went down the shimmering, white slope full of snow. We went down the way that Anna and Mr Ashby and I went down. She didn't really say much, Lizzy, she only just stopped in the middle of the slope with all the other kids to see that the little girl that she had made go down the slope was crying and she had fallen over. "Come on get up" Lizzy said and helped the little girl. So then when Lizzy had a talk with the girl about being confident and being brave, we all continued going down the mountain. We kept on going in the same direction, but then she kept on going forward and I thought this is not right where are we going. THEN I realised that we were actually going down the shirfront! AND THAT MY FRIENDS is one of the BIGGEST SLOPES AT RAINBOW SKI FIELD! Lizzy didn't warn us at all that we were going down here! And that little girl was screaming. We all just went down, sliding and falling over. Then Lizzy stopped in the middle of the slope and thought that we had to stop again in the middle, but then I lost control and went straight down the SLOPE!! And man I was screaming.

When we all got to the end of the massive slope, mum was watching and I told her how bad of a ski teacher Lizzy was. But the ski day was fantastic apart from not realising that I was going down the shirfront! But then I said to mum, "Do you think I should go down the shirfront slope again?" And mum said "I don't know, maybe." Then I asked Anna if she wanted to go down the shirfront with me. And she said yes! So we got up to the top of the mountain and went skiing down the mountain. Mr Marsten was there as well. And when we were about to go down the big, shirfront slope I got really scared. Anna went down a bit shaky but she was fine and got down to the bottom before me. When I was still hesitating at the top, Mr Marsten came and taught me how to go down it. I went down with him guiding me. Then half way down the slope I went straight down and put my hands in the air and screamed, "I DID IT!!!!" It was the best thing in my whole life! And mum took a video of me going down it and said, "Well Done!"

So that was most of my ski day. Thank you for reading! ;-)

My music progressions song

This is my music progression song that is inspired by Massive Attack (The band I researched) Go to my music progressions post for more details :-)

Ms Oldfield

Room 5 is very lucky to have a new student teacher, give a round of applause for...........MS OLDFIELD! Ms Oldfield is a young, awesome student teacher teaching room 5 then another teacher basically teaching her! When I say that I mean that this person from her university or something is watching her to see if she would be a good teacher, and I think that she will be an incredible teacher. This week and last week Ms Oldfield has been teaching us for the whole day, while Mr Ashby hangs around like a bad smell (that's what he says).

This week (week 9) is the 3rd week that Ms Oldfield has been teaching in room 5.
So yeah this was the post about Ms Oldfield the cool, incredible student teacher that in the future will be an outstanding teacher!

Art Progressions

Hi. Okay what a great way to start a blog post. This is a post about art progressions Art progressions is just like literacy progressions, but not about writing it's about art like drama, music, dance and visual art. Right now we are doing music progressions. Next we are doing drama. So basically we call art progressions music progressions now. So back to the main point of this post, music  progressions is like literacy progressions because 1. We set a goal, but a goal in music not writing. 2. They both have 'progressions' in their names so they are like the same thing.

So you are probably wondering what my goal is that I have set, well my goal is to basically learn more about the elements of music and so and so. The project I am doing is to research my favourite band which is Massive Attack and then make a song inspired by the band. I think this is actually a pretty good project to do. And if you don't know Massive Attack here is the link for there wiki wikipedia This is the link for Massive Attack ;-)

And the whole challenge of this music progression project is I use garage band a lot and i am really good at it cause I make songs on it all the time, but i was going to make the 'Massive Attack Inspired' song on garage band and now I am thinking, "Elly Mae you are not challenging yourself if you are just making a song on garage band!" So now I am going to try and make a song on a new music product on app store (partly because garage band doesn't have any big, dark beats like Massive Attack does.)

Science Fair!

This Term (term 3) is the best term because......YES, you guessed it this term is all about SCIENCE! and on the 20th of August it is science fair. And for science fair I am testing what bread mould grows more on and which bread mould grows the fastest on. What do you think? Well my hypothesis is,  I think that the cornbread will grow mould the fastest because it seems like the healthiest bread and also mould grows better with moist and cornbread is the most moist bread out of my 4 breads.
This is my data!!.....So far
Day 1. Nothing has happened to the bread.
Day 2. Nothing has happened to the bread.
Day 3. The bread has got a little bit hard.
Day 4. It has gone quite stale and I think maybe that it won’t grow mould. If you feel it it crusts against your skin
Day 5. All 4 of the breads are so stale and crusty. But the cornbread actually is not as hard and crusty as the other breads so I have a feeling that the mould will grow more and faster on the cornbread.
Day 6. The breads are all hard no sign of mould what so ever.

I really enjoy science and i think that my project is pretty good and I am excited to see what happens next!! Now of course every type of food has ingredients and thsese are the ingredients for all for of the bread I am testing.
