Apprentice Thingy-Ma-Bob

In the senior syndicate, we are doing this thing called Apprentice. The teachers told us that it is like a Genius Hour thing. On Thursday (yesterday) each class got a number, I got number 11. Then at the senior assembly, we all did this thing called ninja maths. It was really fun! These are all of the ninja moves.

This is the plus sign.
Equal sign. And there are a few more, like division: You put your arm across and then punch over and under it. We also used sign language for this task.

Then what the teachers tell the syndicate is to go around doing sums with the ninja moves. And the answer has to be the number that we got earlier on. I did 33 divided by 3 which equals my number, 11. So we do that to the other kids and we have to see if they have the same number. And if they do then they are in your group.

Each group has one kid from each class in the senior syndicate. So you need one kid from room 6, room 5, room 4, room 3 and room 2. The people in my group are, Flynn from room 2, Finn from room 3, Hunter from room 4, Me from room 5, Vaaloa from room 6.

We had to do teamwork and we had to make a toaster and a smoothie blender out of all of the people in our group. Then we did an object of transport or something like that. So we made an elephant. Hunter was the upper part of the elephant and Finn was riding on his back. Flynn and Vaaloa were in the middle and I was at the end, (I had this little stick thing for the tail of the elephant)

That was the first day, so we did not do this every time. We actually have to do another genius hour project, which in my case is fun. On the second day we try to think of something, we come up with a fizzy drink shower, auto tying shoelaces and that's about it. At home I tried thinking about another invention and I came up with one. It was a game keyboard. But I think that they already exist. We'll think of something, I am SURE of it (not really)

Birthday Maths With Mrs Wright!

For maths, Room 5 have been doing a project called Birthday maths. Mrs Wright's birthday is on the 1st of July and guess what? Mine is on the 2nd of July! Cherry and I are doing it together. What we do for this maths, is we name all of the things like food at a party if we were to organise our own party. So like for example, we want 3 bottles of coke. Each bottle of coke is 3.00. All we have to do is do 3x3 and that would = 9. Because we want 3 bottles of coke and their 3.00. Also you could have 5 chocolate bars. And chocolate bars each cost 2.00. So all you need to do is 5x3 which = 15. It is a  really cool maths project. Thanks Mrs Wright!

In Flanders Field poem (My version)

This is my Flanders Field poem, I hope you like it.

Our rotting hearts in shallow graves,
Send over a melancholy wave.
Hearts are broken, love is lost,
Soldiers in war paid a terrible cost.
Remember us in Flanders Fields.
This is my Flanders Field art.

My Fourth not finished story for literacy prog.

The bushes swayed as the gentle wind approached the forest. A faint sound of guns in the distance fired through the night sky. A little head peeped out from behind a fern bush and looked around. The creature’s ears twitched nervously and its little nose touched the cold breeze. The animal’s fur shone like silver, bright stars, dancing in the night sky. She was startled from all of the guns in the far distance, the beautiful creature was a cat, not a house cat, but a wild she-cat. Her life was about to get worse if she did not find another forest to live in. World War 1 had started about a moon ago, and the cat’s kin was scared just like her. Not only this silver cat lived in the forest but a bunch of other cats lurked through this abandoned part of New Zealand. She ran back into the deepest part of the forest. Her fur muttered while the force of the wind blew in her face. Then finally she came to a stop next to a enormous tree, that had a small hole in it just the right size for a cat to fit into. The silver she-cat squeezed through the tiny hole. Her sleek, thin body shivered at the sight of blood and fur on the forest floor. “Finally you have arrived Silverleaf, our tree has been attacked by wild dogs.” A dark, grey tabby licked the silver cat’s ear with his rough, sandpaper tongue. “How did the dogs get into the tree?” Silverleaf asked. “We don’t know. And we don’t really know if they were wild dogs too.” The dark, grey tabby replied. “Treeclaw, I think I might know what these dogs are and where they came from,” Silverleaf looked deeply into Treeclaw’s dark, brown eyes,”these dogs are the dogs from war.” Silverleaf finished. “Really? Could it be?” Treeclaw replied. “Yes well it could be, I think. So we need to move to a new forest.” Silverleaf shivered. “You might need to talk to Applepelt about that.” Treeclaw replied then walked away before Silverleaf could protest. Silverleaf looked around at the clearing. A lot of cats walked helplessly around. Silverleaf’s only option was to go see Applepelt. She dragged her paws along the hard ground to show a sign of tiredness. “Why hello there Silverleaf, you look exhausted. Where have you been?” Applepelt calmly said to Silverleaf. “Oh, well this was what I wanted to talk to you about. I was outside of the tree and I heard guns in the distance. And Treeclaw told me that dogs had attacked the cats, is that true?” Silverleaf felt bad for not being in the tree when the attack happened. “Yes that is true. And I know what the dogs were and where they came from Silverleaf.” Applepelt looked down at her shuffling paws. “I do too, they came from the human’s war they have created.” Silverleaf said. But before Applepelt could reply, a loud roaring noise of guns flooded the camp. A bullet came flashing into the tree camp and the sound of cats howling alerted the humans. “This way! Over here!” Silverleaf heard a loud human yell to some other humans.

Pensperation #4

The Lion's golden, sleek fur glistened in the warm sunlight. She could smell the fresh, clean scent of a zebra munching on grass nearby. The lion dived into a hunting position and breathed in some of  the damp air. She slashed her tail from side to side, as she gently creeped up on the plump, stripy creature.

Literacy Progressions

For writing we are doing a project called Literacy Progressions. This is when you set some goals that you think you need to improve on in your writing, for example, I need to work on making more complex punctuation and sentences. So then you have to write 4 stories working on these goals you have set. I really enjoy it. I think it really helps with your writing and work. I have finished two stories and I have achieved a goal in the first story. That goal was to stick with the genre and to make the story make sense. The other one I have to work on is my spelling and to make more paragraphs. Because I always just write my story all down and  I don't put any paragraphs. I still really enjoy writing though and it has got to be my favourite subject. My two stories I have written are completely fictional but I think I have done a good job. The first one I wrote was called Comedy Interview. For Literacy Progressions, the whole class has to write 4 stories about WW1. So I did a story about a man called Derrick Mcjonesly and he interviews a man from war and his name is Greg Lacookas. Greg is not the smartest chap and he doesn't really answer the questions that Derrick asks him. The second story I wrote was about a soldier in WW1 and he writes to his mother but he doesn't know that his mother is actually dead and he still writes to her. The story is called Letters 1 to 12. The one I am working on now is called A Comedy Story With Tony Abbott. As you can tell I love comedy stories. It's because I really enjoy making people laugh and smile. So I am planning to make the story I am working on now, about Tony Abbott and this guy called Simon telling a comedy story about WW1.

Radio Station

At Hampden Street School, there is a thing called Radio Station. You can choose to be in it or not. It is when children from Hampden Street School speak on the radio. I am doing it with Ariana. If you are a student at Hampden Street School then you should try out Radio Station (It's really fun!) Ben Palmer's dad teaches you how to do Radio Station. In term 1 there was too many people goofing around on the Radio, so now in term 2 we have to be sensible and good with the equipment.

Cross Country Training!

We are doing cross country training, YAY!! I love cross country because I really enjoy running and fitness (I guess you could call me a sporty person) We have to run around the school 3 times or over if you want. I usually run 4 laps around the school, but my goal is to squeeze in 5. These are some photos of us running for cross country training.

This is Ocean running, and......well doing a silly face to the camera.

This is Cherry and Rory running. Cherry looks like she is enjoying it, by the way I'm not being sarcastic.

Oooh looks like a big race with these two, Ollie and Ben!

And this is me. I have no idea WHAT is going on with my face, but you can tell I enjoy running.

Sign language week

It is Sign Language week. Linh Da in our class is deaf, so if you want to talk to her you need to do sign language. As you can see, there is a photo of a butterfly, that is because butterflies represent sign language because they are deaf as well. We did some activities and games which involved sign language. We also drew big butterflies on the pavement outside of room 5 with some chalk.
Some people came too, to talk about sign language.

We are learning a bit about sign language and how to use it. Rachel is teaching us.

Rachel taught us two really cool games. One was a colour game, where Rachel and Linh Da signed a colour and the class had to run to the colour. The other one was an alphabet game, where Ocean signed a letter, and if a kid in the class had that letter at the start of their name they would try and run to the other side of the court, and Ocean would try and tag them.
